Series- ‘Yarn Array’ (2020 - Ongoing)

‘Yarn Array' is a project that seeks to bring attention to the lack of inclusivity in children's literature and illustrations, particularly for a diverse global audience. This project offers an alternative reality through ironic illustrations from the children's literary genre, challenging the established idealistic characters and portraying "black" or "dark-skinned characters" as ordinary individuals. The illustrations are created on paper, except for the elaborately hand-stitched, protruding rag doll heads that serve as the characters' faces. These features capture the audience's attention and facilitate nonverbal communication.

The inspiration for this project came from 19th-century "Golliwog" Dolls, which were blatantly racist. The project also addresses the deliberate inclusion of similar dark-faced caricatured characters, who are often depicted as background characters or disguised villains.
